Reference : John 4:1-42; Desire of Ages 183,184 [Chapter 19- At Jacob’s Well (part 1)]

Jesus was in a position where He was before a Samaritan woman, who by history was enemy to the Jews, but He desired to reach out to her. He sought to find the key to her heart; which He did. He showed that even our enemies are in need of being touched and the opportunity to be witnessed to and a chance to know Christ. He showed that there was always a way to reach people, even those who would normally not be open to hearing us. He appealed to the part of her that couldn’t say no; He appealed to her heart. “The offer of a kindness might have been rejected; but trust awakens trust,” so He asked a favour instead of offering. He trusted her to do something for Him, which allowed her to trust Him in return. He found that opening in and took His opportunity to share the light with her. We are to be wise in reaching people; from family to enemies, and rulers to friends. The thirst of others ought to be quenched by Christ and our witnessing for Him is the means by which we direct them to Him.
