Reference : Desire of Ages 164-166 [Chapter 16- In His Temple (part 4) – (John 2:13-25)]

The priests and rulers refused to accept that Jesus was sent by God, even though He had given convincing evidence of His character when He healed the weak and sick in the temple. They still proceeded to ask for a sign of which Jesus told them “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.” Neither they or Jesus’ disciples understood exactly what He meant because Jesus didn’t intend for them to receive that light/truth at that point as they weren’t prepared for it or was it the time for His plan to be in order. That light as time passed and Jesus died became clear and to many it would be “conclusive evidence of His divinity.” Because of our spiritual darkness, just as the disciples were initially, we don’t fully understood the lessons Jesus have for us to learn at any given time. It would take subsequent events to make clear these lessons and brighten the light. We aren’t going to understand everything right away, if at all; sometimes Jesus desires us to see more and experience more before the truth is revealed to us. This is something that we should wait on because we expect that if we study the Word of God we should get it the same time and understand the lessons to be learnt. Everything that Jesus did and said while He was on earth was to point to greater things.

Hebrews 4:14-16 (KJV)

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
